Web Operations Intern

We are hiring a WebOps Intern for Spring or Summer of 2023 to contribute to our rapid product development pace. We work collaboratively to set the technical direction for our SaaS products, developing easy-to-use solutions for our customers. Our engineers find a deep satisfaction in building things that customers actually need. We focus on delivering value to customers and understand that this often means delivering code that isn't perfect, but meets customer needs.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a passion for building leading edge software and is driven to help build a successful SaaS product used by thousands of happy businesses. This opening is on our AppFolio Property Manager product development team.

Responsibilities:

• Create monitoring dashboards to track different metrics relevant to the application
• Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.
• Engage with development and devops teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures.
• Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
• Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts.
• Implement new features and optimize existing ones to drive maximum performance
• Leveraging agile practices, encourage collaboration, prioritization, and urgency to develop at a rapid pace
• Research, share, and recommend new technologies and trends
• Engaging product teams to define cloud services architecture to meet solution requirements.
• Building environments and application stacks in AWS using Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) through automated and repeatable patterns.
• Looking for ways to advance and evolve Appfolio’s product solution delivery by integrating leading-edge cloud services, features, and engineering.
  
  

You know you’re the right fit if…

• Have experience with scripting languages (examples: Python, JSON, TypeScript, Shell scripts, etc.).
• Have exposure to one or more development languages.
• Demonstrates good problem solving, team collaboration, and fast learning.
• You have a genuine interest in cloud technologies.
• You love learning about new technologies, but understand the value of continuing to use something old if it still does everything you need it to do.
• You care about the long-term maintainability of the codebase and will learn to advocate for refactoring and clean-ups where appropriate.
• You care about work-life balance and want your company to care about it too; you'll put in the extra hour when needed but won't let it become a habit.
  
  

Additional Skills and Knowledge:

• Currently pursuing BS, MS, or Ph.D in Computer Science or related technical discipline
• Hands-on work/internship experience developing web-based applications, preferably in a SaaS environment
• Creativity, ability to solve complex problems without a roadmap
  
  

Nice to Have:

• Experience working across all levels of the development stack
• Experience with some areas of our tech like Ruby on Rails, React, datadog, AWS, SOA
• Familiarity with Agile software development processes: Scrum or Kanban
• Familiarity with Test-Driven-Development

Compensation & Benefits

The base hourly wage that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $35 to $45.

The actual base hourly wage for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc. Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses/commissions that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
