The VP of User Experience will lead, inspire, and grow the capabilities of the UX team to create exceptional design experiences for property managers and residents. AppFolio’s software makes it easier for people to find, maintain, and manage housing. This role will impact millions of users and leverage cutting-edge technologies such as Generative AI to reimagine how users will interact with software in the future. Your Impact:

  • Define and articulate a clear, inspiring, and achievable UX vision that motivates and aligns the Product Development organization toward a future user experience.
  • Evangelize a UX vision and strategy that aligns with the AppFolio product strategy across UX, engineering, product, and executive leadership.
  • Design and launch a modern consumer-grade experience that enables AppFolio’s long-term strategy.
  • Create a robust, scalable UX design system that enhances consistency, efficiency, and collaboration
  • Foster a vibrant and highly engaged UX culture where collaboration, creativity, and continuous learning are the norm.
  • Create a high-performing UX team capable of executing the UX and product strategy


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and articulate the impact of investments and trade-offs in UX priorities on the product strategy and company business objectives.
  • Shows a deep understanding of market and competitive trends and dynamics. Capable of identifying and capitalizing on areas for differentiation to create unique, competitive experiences.
  • Demonstrates a track record of delivering value to customers. Knows how to get things done and can lead teams to execute consistently, rapidly, and effectively.
  • Demonstrates resilience and the ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations. Has a proven track record of making clear, well-informed decisions quickly and effectively, even in ambiguous or high-pressure circumstances.
  • Demonstrates strong influence without decision-making authority skills. Has a proven ability to convince peers and executive leadership to align with their strategy, plans, and vision.
  • Proven ability to engage in and navigate difficult conversations effectively, including providing constructive feedback and addressing underperformance.
  • Possesses strong business and financial understanding, including knowledge of financial metrics such as operating margin, gross margin, and other SaaS metrics. Uses this understanding to inform UX strategy and decisions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and financial goals.


Must Have:

  • 10-15+ years experience leading UX teams for platform/SaaS products
  • Experience influencing peers & executive leadership in a highly collaborative environment, aligning the organization toward a common goal
  • Ability to develop strategic UX priorities while promoting and influencing a shared plan that delivers on both customer impact and on our financial goals.


Nice to Have:

  • Experience leading product/UX design in the Real Estate tech industry.
  • Mobile design experience
  • Experience designing both b2b and b2c products.
  • Product-led growth expertise.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, creative, or applicable field with an advanced degree preferred


Compensation & Benefits:

The base salary that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $175,000 - $300,000.

The actual base salary for this role may vary greatly to account for the wide range of skills, experience, and qualifications that candidates may possess at this level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary expectations during the hiring process.

Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses/commissions that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
