What You’ll Do

The SEC Reporting and Sr. Technical Accounting Manager to own the SEC reporting process and serve as the technical accounting subject matter expert. The ideal candidate has excellent problem solving skills, is a strong communicator, thrives on process improvement and enjoys working in a challenging, high tech environment to support our continued success.

  • Work cross-functionally on SEC reporting matters for preparation and review of financial statements, footnote disclosures, MD&A, and relevant disclosure checklists.
  • Drive the quarterly drafting and review cycle, including the quarterly disclosure committee meetings and meetings with the leaders of the business functions.
  • Work closely with the accounting and FP&A teams to obtain documentation and complete financial statements, footnotes and MD&A for Form 10-Qs and 10-K filings.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for SEC filings to ensure all information within the reports are documented and properly supported for internal use and external auditor review.
  • Work with external auditors to answer questions and provide support documentation, as required.
  • Act as AppFolio’s technical accounting subject matter expert. Perform research and draft memos for technical accounting matters.
  • Assist FP&A team with regular forecasts and budgetary process relating to relevant technical accounting transactions.
  • Assist IR Team with any questions relating to financial statements and accounting positions.
  • Prepares certain reconciliations and/or analysis including stock-based compensation.

Must-Haves

  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience in big 4 public accounting
  • Experience working for a public company, preferably in the technology industry preferred
  • A strong understanding of GAAP and experience utilizing an accounting research software to research GAAP guidance.
  • A clear understanding of SEC Rules and guidance with the ability to research and apply rules.
  • Assembling financial statements, footnotes and disclosures within SEC filings
  • Comprehensive experience drafting accounting memos.
  • BS degree in accounting and/or business.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
  • Experience using financial reporting software such as Workiva, WDesk, Edgar Filings Online
  • Experience with working with external auditors and legal counsel, as well as all departments across an organization
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle several projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented.
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $108,000 - $162,000

The actual base salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc.

Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses/commissions that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
