Job Responsibilities
This position requires a strong background in property management or similar multi-entity full cycle accounting. The Senior Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely production of monthly financial statements for an assigned portfolio, as well as supporting the review and oversight of financial statements generated by other Accounting associates. Excellent communication skills in effectively explaining financial statements, accounting related processes and procedures are required. Because this position works largely unsupervised, it is imperative the candidate is a self-starter and sound decision maker, knowing when to seek out needed resources. This candidate should be an effective problem solver, open to change and trying innovative approaches, while proactively seeking out solutions before challenges arise in the department. The Senior Accountant will maintain strong relationships with clients, community management, and other accounting associates.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Train and develop Staff Accountants.
- Support and mentor the ongoing Staff Accountant’s career path.
- Provide guidance, direction and input to Staff Accountants.
- Review Financials Statements prepared by Staff Accountants as needed.
- Prepare and deliver Financial Statement packages for an assigned portfolio of Condominium and/or Homeowners Associations following the quality standards as instructed by Management. Verify correctness of information prior to submission.
- Research, analyze, identify and explain any variances or unexplained items on the Income Statement and changes on the Balance Sheet.
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Provide assistance to Property Managers and Regional Directors on accounting matters related to the assigned portfolio.
- Analyze and post end-of-year audit entries.
- Communicate timely the potential issues that may affect the accuracy of the financial statements.
- Collaborate independent CPA audit firm in their audit and review of associations on a year-end, turnover, and/or periodic audit/review.
- Approve association budgets according to department standards.
- Prepare individual association books for End-of-Year Closing.
- Assist on special requests and projects as necessary.

- Practice and adhere to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards.
- Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct.
- Perform or assist with any operations as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
- May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
- Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
- Perform any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervise team of Property Accountants.
Education & Experience
- BS/BA Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
- Three to five years’ experience in property management, real estate, or residential management preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies and build business plans
- Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office, (Outlook, Word, Excel and VBA, PowerPoint etc.)
