What we’re looking for

The Senior Data Scientist will be pivotal in leveraging data-driven insights to enhance user experiences, improve data interpretability, streamline customer financial processes, and drive product growth.

Your impact

  • Partner with Prod Dev teams to identify systemic constraints, missing data, or status inefficiencies that preclude AppFolio from being our customers’ Accounting System of Record.
  • Identify and advocate for product changes that improve the interpretability of accounting data to define a metric framework for Net Operating Income, amongst other key metrics.
  • Lead/own Product Analytics efforts in the Accounting Domain to drive strategic product decisions, optimize performance, and deliver outcomes surrounding key metrics (adoption, payables adoption, usability) through deep-dive analysis, experimentation, and automation.
  • Partner with the multiple product development teams to align on and execute against Accounting Reporting and other data enablement priorities.
  • Serves as a key analytics advisor for cross-functional groups such as Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Sales. Acting as a consultant/first mover for accounting-related projects.


Must-Have

  • Strong mathematics, statistics, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • 5+ years of work experience in a Data team, including statistical software (e.g., R, Python) and relational database languages (e.g., SQL - Snowflake preferred).
  • Experience building data models in DBT.
  • 2+ Product Analytics and user behavioral data expertise.
  • Data Visualization: Streamlit, Tableau, (Looker, PowerBI)


Nice to have

  • Data modeling experience using DBT.
  • Experience building data products, data pipelines, tooling or automation
  • Experience in one or any of the following:
  • Customer Workflow Products (customer input data)
  • Accounting software products
  • B2B SaaS Products


Compensation & Benefits

The base salary that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $128,000-$192,000

The actual base salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc.

Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses/commissions that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
