Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a Growth Engineer to own the user journey, from discovery of AppFolio to becoming an engaged, successful customer. We are responsible for unlocking potential in teams, tools, and technology.

We're looking for a Growth Engineer who can own technical visioning and engineering of complete systems that impact customer acquisition, monetization, and customer retention.. As an engineer on a small cross-functional product-development team, you will work closely with Product Managers and User-Experience Designers to research growth strategies. You'll also work across teams with people from, marketing, customer success, and other relevant departments. Everything you work on will have a direct and measurable impact on AppFolio’s business metrics and trajectory while also improving the user experience. If you have a mix of frontend and backend development, strong systems and product thinking, owned projects end to end in the past, and want to use your technical skills to drive business growth, this role could be a great fit.

What does this team do:

The Growth Team is dedicated to applying product, engineering, and data to keep AppFolio growing as fast as possible. To scalably grow AppFolio, we build features, infrastructure, and experiments that maximize growth. We help new/returning/dormant users discover, activate their core use cases and build a habit. Deepen their engagement through discovery of relevant features and expand what they can do with AppFolio over time. Our work ranges from iterating on our core user experience to across our entire stack. We drive multi-product activation, retention and expansion.

What You’ll Do

• Contribute to building and delivering the vision, strategy, and product roadmap for setting compounding growth loops that create value for new and existing users alike
• Work closely with cross-functional teams from engineering, data science, design, marketing, customer success, finance, legal and more
• Be the subject matter expert in marketing and growth technology; understand our existing platform landscape and how to optimize it.
• Work in a small, cross-functional, dynamic engineering team to unlock the potential of AppFolio’s growth technology and the teams who leverage it.
• Partner and embed with data, marketing, and product teams across AppFolio to drive implementation and adoption of the stack.
• Be responsible for creating comprehensive documentation to enable self-serve use of the stack.
• Evangelize convention over configuration to lower the cost of integration and increase velocity.
• Unlock innovation at scale for teams and tech throughout AppFolio.
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• You have a track record of shipping great experiences that lead to discovery and high conversion in a role similar to this one
• You are customer-obsessed and want to spend a ton of time with customers and prospects so that you can craft journeys that make AppFolio easily understandable and accessible
• You know when to rely on intuition and when to rely on data
• You have experience instrumenting growth loops, funnels, go-to-market data pipelines, and user experiences
• You are an excellent verbal and written communicator
• You thrive in a cross-functionally collaborative environment. You will work closely with functions like sales, marketing, customer success, product, engineering, design, and finance.
• You are intellectually curious and fascinated by innovative businesses, how they grow, and the technology they need to accelerate that growth
• You have a deep commitment to craft & product excellence
  
  

You’ll love this job if you have the following:

• Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical discipline
• 4 years of extensive hands-on work experience developing web-based applications and tools, preferably in a SaaS environment
• Proven experience working across all levels of the development stack
• Mastery experience in Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, SOA
• Strong familiarity with Agile software development processes: Scrum or Kanban
• Strong familiarity with Test-Driven-Development
• Creativity, ability to solve complex problems without a roadmap
• You love learning about new technologies, but understand the value of continuing to use something old if it still does everything you need it to do
• You care about the long-term maintainability of the codebase and will learn to advocate for refactoring and clean-ups where appropriate
