Job Description

As a Restaurant Host/Hostess, you play a crucial role in creating a positive first impression for our guests. Your primary responsibility is to greet and welcome guests, manage reservations, and ensure a smooth flow of guests through the dining area. You will be the first point of contact, providing excellent customer service and contributing to the overall guest experience.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greeting and Seating:

    • Warmly welcome guests as they arrive at the restaurant.
    • Manage the seating chart and allocate tables efficiently.
    • Communicate estimated wait times and inform guests about available seating options.
  • Reservations:

    • Receive and confirm reservations, both in person and over the phone.
    • Maintain an organized reservation system to optimize table turnover.
    • Provide accurate wait time estimates and alternative options when necessary.
  • Communication:

    • Liaise with the kitchen and serving staff to ensure smooth coordination of guest seating.
    • Relay important information to guests, such as daily specials or promotions.
  • Guest Services:

    • Assist guests with special requests and accommodate their needs to enhance their dining experience.
    • Handle guest concerns and resolve issues promptly or escalate them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintaining Cleanliness:

    • Keep the reception area and waiting areas clean and organized.
    • Monitor and manage the cleanliness and appearance of menus.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure efficient restaurant operations.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to create a positive work environment.

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a customer service or hospitality role is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with a calm and professional demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with reservation systems and basic computer skills.

 

Education/Training/Certifications/Licenses:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

One (1) year of experience preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills required. Dependable, detailed oriented and able to multitask.

Computer literacy:

Intermediate command of computer hardware/software is required; specifically, knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Experience in maintaining a website is desired.

Language requirements:

Multiple language fluency is desirable.

Travel and availability requirements:

May be required to travel for training sessions off-site on an ad-hoc basis. May be occasionally required to cover for front desk staff at other communities within a reasonable commuting distance when needed.

Ability to work extended hours and weekends on as needed basis.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and possessing physical stamina. Work in an upright standing position for long periods of time. Ability to work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain). Walk and climb stairs. Handle, grasp, feel objects and equipment. Reach with hands and arms. Communicate, receive and exchange ideas and information by means of the spoken and written word

Working Conditions:

The majority of work will be completed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment with little to moderate noise levels.
