Recreation Manager

Position Summary:

  • Design, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive annual calendar of recreational and leisure programs for Babcock Ranch residents and Babcock Ranch Independent Special District, while working closely with the Babcock Ranch School District and their needs.
  • Coordinate the use and rental of all recreational facilities and related equipment by both Babcock Ranch residents and recognized community-wide civic and service organizations.

What You Will Accomplish

  • Organize all aspects of each program and/or event including sponsorships, food, beverage, facility, equipment rentals, entertainment, security, and permits.
  • The Manager will analyze all park and recreation programs and determine programming that should be added or deleted. This analysis will include program costing to determine the validity of both ongoing programs and those being proposed.
  • The Manager is responsible for program coordination with the school district, as well as community-based organizations. This includes but is not limited to soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey, softball, and football.
  • The Manager will assist in coordinating fundraising activities and volunteers for events dictated by the operations team.
  • The Manager is responsible for all marketing and publicity of Park and Recreation programming as well as providing updated information on social media and submitting information to the communications department for the website at least two weeks prior to any given event/program.
  • The Manager is responsible for planning all capital expenditures and communicating those goals and objectives with the operations team as part of the annual budget process.
  • The Manager will be responsible for overseeing the integrity of the Recreation programs, which includes strict oversight of inventory, personnel, and revenue.
  • The Manager will prepare a general monthly report for the operations team on department activities and attend meetings with the Board as deemed necessary.
  • The Manager will formulate a vision or plan for Park, Pool, and Recreation in the Community and will use that vision as the guiding principle for funding requests and staff direction.
  • Coordinate with the operations department setup, teardown, and cleanup of each event, including tables, tents, and audio/visual equipment.
  • Research and maintain familiarity and relationships with local talent, restaurants, businesses, publications, and recreational activities.
  • Negotiate and assist in the preparations for signature for event providers within the approved annual department budget.
  • Track and maintain records of income and expenses and maintain electronic storage of the preparation and execution details by program and events throughout the year.
  • Prepare with support documentation an annual budget for the Recreation Department and submit it in a timely manner to the Community Manager and Executive Director.
  • Aid the Communications Manager in the design and placement of publicity for programs.
  • Provide advanced information to the Communications Manager for the promotion of events and programs.
  • Assure that photos are taken for each activity and/or event for inclusion of all communications platforms within the community and school.
  • Obtain written parental authority prior to taking photos of individuals or groups of children at a program or event.
  • Provide post-event information to the Communications Manager for the operations team and possible publication.
  • Supervise hire and train recreational staff. Also, coordinate volunteer programs for events including potential background checks should it be needed.
  • Coordinate with the operations team for needed maintenance and upkeep of the recreational facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by Community Manager and/or Executive Director.

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in the development and implementation of leisure and sports activities for adults, teenagers, and children in a district and school environment.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Quality supervisory skills to manage the work of full-time and part-time employees, volunteers, and contractors.
  • Self-motivator and starter with superior organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the various schedules of events.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong computer skills in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work is undertaken both indoors in an office environment and outdoors.
  • Must be able to work longer than an eight-hour day or a forty-hour week.
  • Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies as necessary.
