Summary

To interact with residents and guests and ensure they have an enjoyable dining experience. This position will assume some supervisory responsibilities, especially during any absence of the Dining Room Manager.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable in the operation of a fine dining facility.
  • Possess leadership qualities and attitude.
  • Participate in orienting, training, and supervising dining room associates.
  • Be tactful and professional in handling residents’ concerns.
  • Ensure that residents and/or guests receive timely and high-quality food and service.
  • Ensure all dining room tables are properly set and or reset with the correct placement of linen, flatware and glassware.
  • Ensure all side work before and after meals is completed.
  • Wait on tables and assist service associates as needed.
  • Ensure the dining room equipment is maintained and repaired as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the dining room.
  • Coordinate storage of supplies.
  • Be knowledgeable with the POS system and perform updates, as necessary.
  • Understand basic computer use and filing systems.
  • Assign duties to service associates.
  • Supervise special events.
  • Ensure that service associates adhere to all standards of service.
  • Take responsibility for the appearance of menus.
  • Provide great customer service to residents and visitors at all times.
  • Treat all residents with respect.
  • Follow all policies and procedures for the department and community.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, upon request.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations for the department.
  • Attend all mandatory training and ongoing training as requested.
  • Know the safety goal(s) of the community.
  • Participate in and support the safety program regularly throughout the year.
  • Ensure to being knowledgeable with the Emergency Preparedness manual.
  • Ensure to being knowledgeable of the specific responsibilities in the event of an emergency.
  • Participate at least annually in the associate satisfaction survey.
  • Respond to associate requests in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dining Room Manager, in the function of the Food Services program.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • 2 years’ prior experience as a food server in a full-service restaurant preferred.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have a valid San Diego County Food Service Workers Card within 30 days of hire.
  • Proven knowledge of proper dining room etiquette and food sanitation and safety.
  • Ability to work all shifts required of the dining room operation.
  • Must be professional in attitude, demeanor and dress.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and other qualifications may be considered.

Language Skills

The individual must have strong written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with employees and clients at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.

Availability

Varied working hours to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Work Environment

The lead server works in a well-lighted, clean environment. S/he constantly interacts with other people, and may have to handle several responsibilities at once. The Association maintains a smoke-free environment in its offices, buildings, and complex.
