Job Description
MAJOR FUNCTION:
This is skilled and semi‑skilled work in the operation of moderately complex power equipment and including; riding mowers, various types of trucks, weed eaters, chain saws and other grounds maintenance/basic equipment. Responsibility extends to the safe handling of equipment and to minor operator maintenance. Work assignments are received on a daily basis and may be oral or written form. Work is performed under the general direction of a supervisor of higher level or the department Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED equivalent.
- Must be able to dead lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and 100 pounds on a non‑regular basis. Physical strength and ability to perform heavy manual labor required.
- Must not have any uncontrolled allergies to grass, pollen, dust, etc. Work performed is exposed to the sun on a constant basis.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with individuals both written and orally. Ability to interact with non‑employees and residents in a professional manner.
- Some knowledge of the tools and equipment used in general grounds maintenance work.
- Must have at least a valid Florida Class “E” Driver License and must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates various types of automotive equipment, such as riding mowers, pick‑up trucks and trucks with attached trailers.
- Operates edgers, clippers, weed eaters, chain saws, concrete saw, blowers and other types of power equipment in the upkeep of grounds and basic construction duties.
- Assist in the performing of masonry and cement work in building and ground repair or construction: cuts and pipes; performs a variety of semi‑skilled painting, carpentry and manual work incidental to construction and maintenance activities.
- Performs manual work to include laying of sod, digging of trenches and removal of build up in culverts and along water ways.
- May be assigned as lead worker in specific areas. Assists the supervisor in the training of new employees.
- Inspects assigned equipment on a regular basis to insure proper working conditions. Prepares work orders as required.
- Maintains equipment as required including oiling and cleaning of equipment.
- May be assigned to other crews for short durations to assist in their areas or assigned to special projects.
- Perform such additional duties and responsibilities as may be required by the needs of the department, the company and the Poinciana Community.
