Director of Enterprise Risk Management

AppFolio seeks a dynamic enterprise risk professional to help lead and transform our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program. This leader will be the single point of contact for AppFolio’s mission critical risks, and will work cross-functionally with process owners to define risk drivers, leading indicators and metrics for each risk. The role will be responsible for dividing risks into auditable systems and processes that can be verified, measured and reported. You will have visibility with Executive Management and the Board and will report directly to the VP of Internal Audit.

What You’ll Do:

Vision:

• Work with the Chief Legal Officer, VP of Internal Audit, and AppFolio’s Enterprise Risk Committee to implement and evolve the ERM Program.
• Communicate and execute the vision for AppFolio’s ERM Program.
• Benchmark the program and drive improvements that increase program maturity.
• Build a plan to operationalize the long-term strategy of ERM.
• Build long-term relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders.
  
  

Risk Assessment:

• Work with business process owners to identify and quantify risks.
• Work cross-functionally with owners of our top mission critical risks to break the risks into their component processes and systems; identify key metrics and leading indicators to facilitate reporting of such risks and their components.
• Work with our data analytics functions to build dashboards illustrating the changing nature of risk.
• Lead our annual Enterprise Risk Assessment process, which includes creating a heat map of mission critical risks.
• Identify and evaluate emerging risks that fall outside of the Enterprise Risk Assessment process, either due to timing or subject matter, that could impact the company.
• Keep current with Enterprise Risk Management best practices.
  
  

Communication:

• Work cross-functionally with business leaders to communicate about the ERM Program and help create a consistent approach to managing risk.
• Present risk findings to senior management and the Enterprise Risk Committee, clearly articulating top risk areas and changes to critical enterprise risks.
  
  

Educate:

• Create an enterprise risk management education program that informs decision makers on how to assess risk and ensure acceptance is at the right level.
• Lead sessions to educate AppFolio employees about our enterprise risk management program.

• Data Oriented: Comfortable working with and deriving insights from data.
  
  

Desired Skills & Experience:

• 10+ years of a combination of audit, controls, business process or risk management experience is required (Big4 is a plus).
• Risk certification, such as: CRMA, RIMS-CRMP, CRISC, ARM, or equivalent is a plus
• An understanding of risk management and compliance frameworks: COSO, IRM, IIA, ISO, OECD, etc.
