Responsibilities
About the Role: Hybrid position - part in Plano office and part-time remote
We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on Director of Data Engineering to lead the design, development, and evolution of our data platform. This role is critical in shaping our data architecture, optimizing data pipelines, and building a best-in-class engineering team that empowers RealManage to make faster, smarter, and more scalable decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Set Vision and Strategy: Define and execute a roadmap for a scalable, secure, and high-performance data platform that supports the evolving needs of the business.
- Architect Scalable Systems: Design efficient and future-ready schemas, pipelines, and workflows for both structured and unstructured data—ensuring high throughput, low latency, and extensibility.
- Drive Engineering Excellence: Establish and enforce best practices around data ingestion, transformation, observability, quality, governance, and privacy.
- Build and Lead a World-Class Team: Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and inclusion.
- Collaborate Across the Business: Partner with data science, product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions that drive measurable impact.
- Champion Best Practices: Promote a strong data culture by advancing the use of modern tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt), testing frameworks, and real-time streaming technologies.
- Lead Next-Gen Initiatives: Spearhead the evolution of our real-time data lake and semantic layer, enabling frictionless analytics and experimentation.
- Ensure Governance and Reliability: Implement frameworks for data monitoring, observability, and validation to ensure system reliability, data integrity, and compliance.
- Stay Ahead of the Curve: Keep a pulse on emerging trends in cloud infrastructure, data engineering, and machine learning to ensure our platform remains best-in-class.
- Foster Communication and Alignment: Translate complex technical ideas into clear business terms, contributing to strategic conversations and cross-functional planning.

Qualifications
Who you are:
- 12+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or business intelligence, with a strong record of leading teams and delivering large-scale platforms.
- Proven ability to deliver results in a dynamic, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment.
- Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and distributed data systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, Java, or other object-oriented programming languages.
- Expert-level SQL skills with a solid foundation in data modeling and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with modern data stack tools: Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Kafka, Synapse, Azure Data Lake, etc.
- Familiarity with real-time data streaming and IoT data ingestion architectures.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong grasp of data governance, privacy standards, and observability best practices.
- Excellent communicator who can distill complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
- Track record of mentoring and growing diverse technical teams.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Technical Proficiency:
- Cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Synapse, GCP BigQuery)
- Real-time and batch data pipelines (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Azure Event Hub)
- Data orchestration and transformation tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt
- Observability and monitoring for data pipelines
- Data modeling and performance optimization
- Data lake, warehouse, and semantic layer architectures
- General software engineering and REST API development
- Microsoft technology stack and related development tools
Pay and Benefits:
$200,000 to $215,000, depending on education and experience.
