Job Description
The Director of Client Accounting is a member of Branch Leadership (L-2). The Director is responsible for client accounting operations and supervision of accounting staff to include training, supervising and evaluating staff and accounting operations. The Director participates in Departmental committees as well as Client meetings as requested. Specific duties and responsibilities will vary from time to time.
This position will develop and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position supervises the accounting department, which consists of AR, AP, and GL Accounting staff, to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed promptly and accurately. This position addresses tight deadlines and many accounting activities, client general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities. This position is also responsible for completing the responsibilities of a Branch Controller.
Client Accounting:
Develop and maintain accounting control mechanisms to monitor the reconciliation process of all balance sheet and income statement accounts
Create and support an efficient and accurate process for the flow of information between the property management and accounting departments
Ensure internal controls are in place and operating effectively
Ensure the maintenance and reconciliation of all bank accounts and G/L accounts
Oversee the accounting close process, and communicate with other areas of accounting and property management to ensure deadlines are met
Work with the GL accountants to ensure clean and timely client CPA reviews and tax preparation
Support accounting and property management staff with the annual budget and forecasting process
Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Work with each direct report to establish annual goals and objectives and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
Support the Branch president with special projects and workflow process improvements as needed

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
This position requires experience with Microsoft 365, Power BI, and property management-specific software, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
