AppFolio’s Analytics Engineers are creating the Data Platform to power the business’ Analytics and Data Science teams. This key role will work to establish a single source of truth for KPI’s across AppFolio and enable the discovery of impactful insights about our business and customers to inform company strategy. The Analytics Engineer will work cross-functionally with analysts and researchers throughout the business to understand analytics and reporting needs and engineer creative solutions to address these at scale. This will be accomplished through developing and implementing ETL scripts, creating Tableau Dashboards, and contributing to key analytics initiatives requiring a high degree of technical knowledge and skills.

Your Impact

  • Create, maintain, and refine business logic ETL (SQL) behind ‘source of truth’ tables and views in Snowflake data warehouse
  • Create, maintain, and refine ‘source of truth’ dashboards and data sources for analytics teams and leaders in Tableau Online
  • Take on ad-hoc reporting and analytics projects as necessary to support key initiatives across the business
  • Ensure data quality by building observability, enforcing access control, and running continuous integration tests in the system
  • Play an active role in AppFolio’s cross-functional Analytics & Research Community, helping a group of 40+ Analysts, Data Scientists, and Researchers solve problems and create innovative analytics models and solutions


Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of data modeling principles with experience serving as data steward for business-critical data/reporting assets
  • Ability to collaborate and develop positive business relationships with all cross-functional areas within AppFolio
  • Highly motivated, resourceful problem solver with the ability to lead and interact effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Creative thinker with an entrepreneurial spirit and strong implementation ability
  • Proven track record in performing well in a fast-paced environment


Must have

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM field (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.)
  • 3+ years in Analytics, BI, or Software Engineering roles
  • Advanced working knowledge of SQL
  • 3+ years experience in Python
  • Experience in ETL orchestration tool such as Airflow
  • Experience in transformation tool such as dbt
  • Experience with design and ownership of reporting layers of BI solution (Looker, Power BI, Tableau) with advanced working knowledge of Tableau required
  • Experience with AWS tech stack (S3, EC2, EMR, EKS) required. Experience with Snowflake is ideal


Compensation & Benefits

The base salary that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $108,000-$149,000.

The actual base salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc.

Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
