Location: Remote Flexible/Wilmington, NC

Overview

 

Reporting to the CFO, the Corporate Controller is an active, hands-on leader who will manage the accounting department and be a business partner across the company through a period of growth, including new product launches, including payments processing, and potential acquisitions. The Controller will actively lead the day-to-day aspects of the accounting department including financial reporting, internal control systems, managing accounting processes, and other operational aspects of the business.

 

The ideal candidate for the position must have an audit or public accounting foundation, an active CPA license, and at least 5 years in an accounting leadership role, preferably with an established private equity backed software business. In addition, the ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of total experience in accounting, including external financial reporting, designing and implementing internal controls, accounting for acquisitions, system implementations and integrations, process reengineering, and depth in working with accounting systems, particularly NetSuite.

 

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Provide financial accounting leadership and daily direction in accordance with the overall strategic direction of the company.
  • Build, develop, and retain a strong, effective, and high-performing team.
  • Act as the company’s GAAP expert, ensuring compliance with all financial reporting regulations.
  • Communicate operating results and accounting information effectively and strategically, delivering results-oriented messages.
  • Support the effective and timely communication of actual versus budget financial performance reporting.
  • Oversee the Company’s annual financial audit and lead relationships with auditors and tax advisors. Ensure timely and accurate tax reporting.
  • Effectively interact with investors and address routine reporting and other information requirements.
  • Foster a positive and proactive department environment, emphasizing respect for individuals, high standards of quality, customer service, innovation, teamwork, and cross-department communication and collaboration.
  • Strong results orientation within the department by motivating staff and holding them accountable for meeting customer needs and organizational goals.
  • Ensure understanding of interrelationships across functional areas to promote effective communication and support, as well as cooperation in redesigning processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring optimal results.
  • Identify, communicate, and act on opportunities to clarify and streamline procedures and processes and increase efficiency through automation
  • Ensure a strong system of internal controls is in place and is enhanced as processes change and the business continues to grow.
  • Work closely with CFO to support the development of budgets and long-term projections.
  • Assist CFO in overseeing banking relationships and support management of covenant compliance and required lender reporting.
  • Act in the role of administrator of ERP system and other accounting software applications; oversee transformational projects to significantly upgrade financial processes and controls, including integrations with other supporting systems.
  • Work with various software tools, such as NetSuite and HubSpot.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Active CPA license; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience handling high-volume transactions (payments processing) and multiple product lines.
  • Experience in software and recurring revenue services business; SaaS experience is strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP; particularly revenue recognition and accounting for acquisitions.
  • Excellent financial reporting skills, including variance analysis and commentary.
  • Experience building budgets and forecasts.
  • Experience managing the accounting function through mergers and acquisitions.
  • Able to lead through influence and collaboration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in staff development and team building.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint), NetSuite or similar ERP, and HubSpot or similar CRM.
